Dental Implant Abutments Budapest Hungary Explained

Dental Implant Abutments

Dental implant abutments are at the core of implant function. They are used to transfer the load from the teeth to the dental implant itself and so high quality abutments are absolutely essential in any high quality restoration. The implant itself is hiden beneath the implant as too is the dental implant abutment but the post of the abutment extends out into the crown and so in some situations the material the abutment is made out of may be important - especially in front restorations where high quality translucent crowns (such as Procera) are used.

Dental Implant Abutments Explained

Shown here (greatly enlarged) are the three pieces that make up a full dental implant restoration.

The Crown
Here seen from the side, this is a front lateral incisor.

The Abutment
the post, which is the upper portion of the abutment, will in this case have the crown cemented onto it after the lower section is attached to the implant below. Notice the curved horizontal line which is designed to fit the lower curve of the crown. None of the abutment will be visible once the crown is fitted onto it.

The Dental Implant
None of the implant is visible once the abutment and crown have been fitted.

Dental Implant, Abutment and Crown Joined

Here you can see all three pieces joined together - the abutment is inserted into the dental implant and the dental crown is cemented onto the abutment post.

Note the pink line which denotes the gum line. Everything below this line is not visible so that only the replacement tooth can be seen.

In some systems the crown is not permanently glued to the post but instead a special abutment is used which allows for a discreet screw to be used to attach the crown in place.

Different Types of Dental Implant Abutments

Shown here is a selection of Camlog dental implant abutments from left to right: Esthomic dental implant abutment, Gold-plastic dental implant abutment, Logfit™ dental implant abutment, Ceramic dental implant abutment, Universal dental implant abutment, Locator® dental implant abutment and Ball dental implant abutment
There are many different types of dental implant abutments that our dentists at The Implant and Aesthetic Center in Budapest. have available to them. Each is designed for a specific purpose and each implant system will have it's own range of abutments - some more than others. For example, Camlog and Branemark dental implant systems have some of the widest selection of abutments available on the market today whereas Pitt Easy dental implant system has a limited range, meaning that the dental implant's range of use is also limited.

Zirkon Abutments and Procera Crowns

Because of the very high luminosity and translucent nature of Nobel-Biocare's Procera™ Crown, where the restoration is fully visible it is always advisable to use a Zirkon dental implant abutment. Both Camlog (shown here) and Branemark make Zirkon abutments for this very purpose.

The end result is a truly realistic restoration that allows the light travel through the crown and be dispersed diffusely from within. Truly the gold-standard of all restorations and well worth the extra cost if a premium solution is what you are after.
